Lifestyle Change – Healthy Lifestyle

Before you head in a dozen different directions trying to change  your lifestyle just because it is the right thing to do, and you quickly run out of energy and motivation, find out what your core purpose is in doing so. We fail to accomplish our health goals because we do not fully know why we are doing it, we do not know what results we expect, clearly defined, and we fail to maintain those changed habits long enough to reap the benefits.

What type of benefits can you expect from changes in your lifestyle? Certain diseases and medical conditions are significantly impacted by lifestyle:

  • diabetes
  • acid reflux
  • irritable bowel
  • asthma
  • ADD
  • ADHD
  • autism
  • allergies
  • eczema
  • candidiasis
  • arthritis
  • Crohn’s
  • chronic fatigue
  • hypertension
  • heart disease
  • arteriosclerosis
  • restless leg
  • Lyme disease
  • headaches
  • migraine
  • recurrent ear infections
  • recurrent infections

and chemical sensitivities. Changing your lifestyle will reduce and in many cases eliminate the causes for these disease conditions over time. Without lifestyle changes the need for medications continues and the condition worsens! Changing one’s lifestyle can in the more immediate future, reduce the amount of medication needed to deal with the symptoms. This is great motivation to start making some changes in your life now!

Let’s get more specific. If you are taking

  • blood pressure medications
  • blood thinners
  • statins or other cholesterol medications
  • immune suppressing medications
  • stomach medications
  • blood sugar medications
  • anti-acids
  • acid reflux medications
  • allergy shots
  • anti-histamines
  • pain killers
  • or anti-biotics

on a regular basis then a lifestyle change can definitely improve your medical condition and when properly supervised will eliminate your need for these medications over time! Therefore, if you are on regular medications, identify which ones you will work to eliminate the need to take, whether its blood pressure meds to cholesterol meds. With proper lifestyle changes over time your need for these medications can be eliminated. Do not accept the fact that once on medications you will be forever dependent upon them because lifestyle changes can and does help to eliminate the need for medications when properly done and maintained.

Diet, detoxification, proper nutrition, stress reduction and exercise are foundational elements of a healthy lifestyle. It takes six weeks to make any change in your life a habit, where it no longer feels like an effort and becomes a natural part of your life. I strongly suggest you work on one change at a time until accomplished. The first thing to do is eliminate bad habits! Smoking, daily drinking of alcohol, food binging, drug abuse all need to be put on your priority list and they are serious enough to require professional help. These ‘bad habits’ are especially damaging to your heath because they are directly linked to cancer, cirrhosis, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and stroke!

Other bad habits that can be overcome alone are the elimination of sodas, excessive coffee intake, daily intake of sugar and refined carbohydrate snaking, and anything that comes with preservatives in a box frozen or on the shelf! These bad habits do the same thing to the body, only slower and silently! They make you tired and fat, and throw off your hormones, not to mention weaken your immune system increasing your risk for cancer and chronic silent infections and the development of immune sensitivities and allergies. Total elimination may not be possible so start by making small changes! If you have a double shot mocha with whip cream daily, decide how far back you can cut down. Can you have it only once a week as a treat, use non-fat milk and skip the whip?

With any type of bad habit elimination, it MUST be replaced with a good habit to anchor the lifestyle change. If you are no longer going to have those sugar and calorie ridden fancy mochas, you need to replace it with something healthy! Try a hot peppermint tea with a natural sweetener like stevia, or a cold sparking mineral water with a squeeze of lemon!

But I just have to have it you say! This is a sign of a chemical addiction in your body. Many foods we eat create an opoid response in the brain that acts like an addictive force. Our body is use to having the chemical ‘hit’ that eating that food creates. Avoiding the food for a prolonged period of time causes our body to cry out for the food, makes us irritable, mentally distracted, agitated and can give us insomnia, fatigue and headache as we begin a detoxification process from the food. Remember it will pass and giving into your craving will prolong the agony of being free from the compulsion to eat it!

Gluten and glutenin from flour is one of the most addicting substances next to sugar and food additives! Recent studies announced by Metagenics medical seminars has shown the effects of gluten and glutenin to remain in the brain for 6 months! Therefore, those of you who say “I stayed off of it for a month and didn’t feel any different, so I went back to eating it” didn’t stay away from it long enough! Yes this is sad news but it is also remarkable the lasting detrimental effects certain foods can have on our brain and our body! Make the one food that you can’t live without powerless over your life by vowing to begin to eliminate it completely from your life. Do it by reducing the frequency in which you eat it in a deliberate fashion until you no longer eat it. It’s hold on you will disappear and your health and energy will improve.
